Changes to Refuse Pick Up Service

Posted on May 11, 2017 by Jennifer Frey in Uncategorized

Refuse Companies will no longer be able to take Corrugated Cardboard!

Many of you probably don’t give much thought to what you throw away. Local refuse companies have recognized this and provided us with some new information. The City of Lincoln is banning ALL CORRUGATED CARDBOARD from the city landfill beginning April 1, 2018. This will be a big change for the residents of Lincoln and our tenants.

What is Corrugated Cardboard?

House/Duplex Renters: You will have a couple of options.

  1. You may sign up for the curbside recycling with your refuse company. You will need to have the refuse company bill you directly for the recycling service, as RIS will not cover that cost for you.
  2. You may collect your corrugated cardboard for a certain amount of time and call in for a special “cardboard only pick-up” for a minimum fee. Again, you will need to have the refuse company bill you directly for that fee, as RIS will not cover that cost for you.
  3. You can always use the city run drop off sites for free. Click here to see a list of the drop off sites. Lincoln has 23 different drop off sites.  The City of Lincoln also plans on expanding their free drop-off sites as well.
